If you watch on a computer regularly, install the desktop app. The browser player is convenient for a quick check, but a native Windows application handles video decoding properly: less stuttering, lower processor use, faster channel switching, and a TV guide that actually fits on screen.
This guide covers the recommended IPTV Smarters desktop application, and a fallback using VLC for anyone who prefers not to install additional software.
- Windows 10 or 11 PC
- Mint IPTV Subscription
Step 1: Download the desktop app
Download only from the official source below.
- Open your browser and go to the official IPTV Smarters download page: iptvsmarters.com → Windows app
-
Choose the Windows build. The file is an
.exeinstaller of roughly 100MB. - Save it somewhere you can find easily, such as your Downloads folder.
- Never download IPTV software from links posted on forums or file-sharing sites — the official site is the only version we support.
Step 2: Install it
Windows will ask for confirmation because the installer is not from the Microsoft Store.
-
Double-click the downloaded
.exefile. - If a blue Windows protected your PC box appears, click More info, then Run anyway. This SmartScreen warning appears for any installer that Microsoft has not seen many times before.
- Accept the licence agreement and choose the install location, or just accept the default.
- Click Install, wait for it to finish, then click Finish to launch the app.
Step 3: Log in with Xtream Codes
The login screen looks the same as the mobile and TV versions.
- On first launch, accept the terms of service.
- Select Login with Xtream Codes API.
- Any Name: type Mint TV.
- Username, Password and Server URL: copy and paste each one from your Mint IPTV welcome email.
- Click Add User. Your channels, movies and series begin downloading.
Step 4: Set it up for comfortable viewing
Two settings make a real difference on a PC.
- Open Settings > General and enable Auto Start on Boot only if you want the app to open with Windows.
- In Settings > Player, try each available decoder. Hardware decoding is best on modern machines; software decoding helps on older laptops with weak graphics.
- Press F11 for full screen and Esc to leave it.
- Pin the app to your taskbar so it is one click away.
Alternative: watch through VLC
If you would rather not install another application, VLC can play your playlist directly.
- Install VLC Media Player from videolan.org if you do not already have it.
- Open VLC and choose Media > Open Network Stream, or press Ctrl + N.
- Paste the M3U URL from your welcome email into the network address box.
- Click Play. VLC loads the channel list into its playlist panel — press Ctrl + L to show it.
- Be aware that VLC gives you no TV guide, no search and no Movies or Series sections. It is a basic fallback, not a replacement.
Troubleshooting
SmartScreen blocks the installer
Click More info, then Run anyway. This warning is about the installer's reputation with Microsoft, not about a virus.
Black screen with sound only
Switch the decoder in Settings > Player, and update your graphics driver. Old Intel integrated graphics drivers are the usual cause.
The app will not open after install
Right-click the shortcut and choose Run as administrator once. If it still fails, uninstall, restart Windows and install again.
"Invalid credentials"
A trailing space is almost always the culprit when pasting from email. Delete any space after the username, password and URL, and check the port number is included.
Choppy playback on a laptop
Set the Windows power plan to High performance. Laptops on Balanced throttle the processor and drop frames during 4K playback.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a Mac version?
There is no reliable native Mac app. On macOS, use the browser web player, which works well in Safari and Chrome.
Does the desktop app cost anything?
No. The IPTV Smarters desktop application is free. Only your Mint IPTV subscription is paid.
Can I record shows on Windows?
The desktop app includes a basic recording function. Where you have catch-up available, that is usually the better option.
App or browser — which is better?
The app, for anything longer than a few minutes. It decodes video far more efficiently and gives you a full TV guide.
