How to Setup Mint IPTV on Enigma2 & Zgemma

For Zgemma, Vu+, Octagon, Formuler and other Linux receivers running OpenATV, OpenPLi or similar images.

How to Setup Mint IPTV on Enigma2 & Zgemma

This is the most technical setup on the site, and it is worth being honest about that. Enigma2 receivers do not install apps — they load channels as bouquets, which are configuration files placed directly into the receiver's file system. You get there over your home network, using either an SSH terminal or an FTP client.

If you are comfortable typing a command into a terminal, this takes about ten minutes. If that sentence made you uneasy, a £30 Android box will get you the same channels in five minutes with no command line at all — and our support team can also do this remotely for you.

  • Enigma2 receiver
  • Mint IPTV Subscription
  • PC with PuTTY or an FTP client
Before you start: Your receiver and your computer must be on the same home network. Have your welcome email open — you need either the one-line install command or the M3U URL from it.

Step 1: Find your receiver's IP address

You will connect to the box using this address.

  1. On the receiver, press Menu and go to Setup > System > Network > Device Setup. The exact path varies slightly between images.
  2. Note the IP address. It usually looks like 192.168.1.45 or 192.168.0.45.
  3. Confirm the box is actually online by pressing the blue or green network test button if your image offers one.
  4. Write the address down — you will use it several times below.

Step 2: Connect with PuTTY over SSH

PuTTY is a small free terminal program for Windows. On macOS and Linux, use the built-in Terminal instead.

  1. Download and install PuTTY from putty.org, or open Terminal on Mac and Linux.
  2. In PuTTY, type your receiver's IP address in the Host Name box, leave the port as 22, and click Open.
  3. On Mac or Linux, type ssh root@192.168.1.45, replacing the address with your own.
  4. When asked to accept the host key, choose Accept or type yes.
  5. Log in as root. Most images have no password by default — just press Enter. If yours does have one, it is the password you set when you configured the box.

Step 3: Run the install command

Mint IPTV supplies a single command that fetches and installs your bouquets automatically.

  1. Copy the one-line install command from your welcome email. It will look similar to this, with your own details in place of the placeholder:
    wget -O /tmp/install.sh "YOUR-SCRIPT-URL" && chmod 755 /tmp/install.sh && /tmp/install.sh
  2. Paste it into PuTTY by right-clicking the terminal window — Ctrl+V does not work in PuTTY.
  3. Press Enter and let it run. The script downloads your channel list and writes the bouquet files.
  4. When it finishes, the receiver's interface restarts on its own and your channels appear.
  5. If your welcome email does not include a script command, use the FTP method in the next section instead.
No command in your email? Contact support and ask for the Enigma2 install script for your line. Include which image you are running (OpenATV, OpenPLi, and so on).

Alternative: upload the bouquet by FTP

If you would rather not use a terminal, you can copy the file across with any FTP program.

  1. Install FileZilla or another FTP client on your computer.
  2. Connect to your receiver: Host = the IP address, Username = root, Password = your root password (often blank), Port = 21.
  3. On the receiver side, navigate to the folder /etc/enigma2/.
  4. Upload the bouquet file supplied by Mint IPTV into that folder.
  5. Set the transfer mode to Binary if FileZilla offers the choice, so the file is not altered in transit.

Final step: reload the bouquets

The receiver only reads bouquet files when it restarts its interface.

  1. On the receiver press Menu > Standby/Restart > Restart GUI (sometimes listed as Restart Enigma2).
  2. Wait for the interface to come back — about thirty seconds.
  3. Press the Bouquet or OK button and look for the new Mint IPTV bouquet in your channel list.
  4. Open a channel to confirm the stream plays. Setup is complete.

Troubleshooting

PuTTY says "Connection refused"

SSH is disabled on your image, or the IP address is wrong. Re-check the address in Network settings, and enable the SSH/Dropbear service under Menu > Setup > Network Services.

The bouquet appears but no channel plays

The subscription is not active yet, or the credentials inside the bouquet are wrong. Confirm your line is active, then ask support to regenerate the bouquet.

Picture freezes every few seconds

Enigma2 receivers have small buffers. Use an Ethernet cable rather than a USB Wi-Fi dongle — this fixes it in most cases.

The bouquet vanished after a firmware update

Flashing a new image wipes /etc/enigma2/. Simply run the install command again once the box has rebooted.

Root password is not blank and I do not know it

Set a new one from the receiver itself under Menu > Setup > System > Password, then reconnect with the new password.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Enigma2 receivers are supported?

Any Linux receiver running an Enigma2 image works, including Zgemma, Vu+, Octagon, Formuler, Edision and Xtrend, on OpenATV, OpenPLi, OpenViX or similar.

Can support set this up for me?

Yes. Contact us and, if you are willing to share temporary access to your receiver, our technical team can install the bouquets remotely.

Will this affect my satellite channels?

No. IPTV bouquets are added alongside your existing satellite bouquets. Nothing is removed or overwritten.

Do I need a specific image?

No. Any current Enigma2 image works. Very old images may lack the wget or SSL support the script needs, in which case use the FTP method.
